Apple’s new iPhone Duo is the first iPhone to support Apple Pencil, expanding the device beyond a traditional smartphone into something closer to a compact creative workspace. Apple says Pencil support will work on both the inner 7.6-inch display and the smaller outer display, although the feature is expected to arrive later in 2026 rather than at launch. MacRumors
There is one important limitation: the iPhone Duo will support the USB-C Apple Pencil, not the Apple Pencil Pro. The USB-C model charges through a concealed USB-C port and does not require magnetic charging on the side of the device. MacRumors
That also means some of the Apple Pencil Pro’s more advanced features are absent. The USB-C Apple Pencil supports tilt sensitivity, but it does not include pressure sensitivity, squeeze, barrel roll, haptic feedback, double-tap, or Find My. MacRumors
Apple reportedly explored a shorter Pencil designed specifically for the iPhone Duo, including a version that could attach magnetically to the device, but that accessory was ultimately shelved before launch. MacRumors
For the iPhone Duo, Pencil support makes particular sense when the device is unfolded. The larger inner display gives users more room for handwriting, annotation, sketching, and precise interaction than a conventional iPhone screen, bringing some iPad-style workflows to a device that still folds into a pocket. For accessory makers, it also creates a new design problem: the iPhone Duo, Apple Pencil, charging, and desktop use now need to coexist as part of the same setup.
